Understand today’s gold rate before you compare a price

The gold rate today gives you a starting point for comparing a jewellery purchase, a bullion offer or the value of gold you already own. How to check the gold price in four steps

1. Choose your market. The country selection sets the currency. Read the price basis and observation date beside the result.
2. Match the purity. The main rate controls offer 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K. The gold calculator also offers 14K, 10K and 9K for those jewellery comparisons.
3. Choose the weight. Compare one gram, 10 grams, one tola or a troy ounce. Enter an exact weight in the gold calculator for a particular item.
4. Compare the dates and the total. Use the daily history for the price movement and an itemised seller quotation for the amount you would actually pay or receive.

Gold rates by country and currency

Each market has a dedicated page with its own explanation and FAQs. These are the starting settings used by the dashboard; you can change the weight after choosing a country.

Compare Gold by Karat and Fineness

Karat describes the gold proportion of an alloy on a scale of 24. At the same alloy weight, a 22K item contains more gold than an 18K item. For a metal-value calculation, the nominal fractions are 22/24 for 22K, 21/24 for 21K and 18/24 for 18K. The gold calculator’s purity selector also includes 14K and 10K for jewellery comparisons and 9K for items marked 9ct or 375. The tool uses a publisher’s separate purity quotation where supported and identifies values calculated from a pure-gold reference.

A fineness figure gives another way to describe the metal content: 750 means 750 parts per thousand, or 75%. A 24K product should still be checked for its stated fineness, such as 999 or 999.9. One gram, 10 grams and one tola: choose the right comparison

When a supported source publishes its own tola or 10-gram quotation for the selected purity, the tool preserves that original amount for the matching weight. Otherwise it calculates from the matching per-gram reference: four grams uses four times that value, eight grams uses eight times it and 10 grams uses ten times it. The calculator also supports 12 grams and custom quantities, so you can check the weight on an invoice without rounding it to a convenient headline amount.

One tola in this calculator is 11.6638038 grams. Twelve grams is therefore a larger quantity. One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams, using the NIST precious-metal conversion factor. Check a seller’s gram equivalent when a local weight name is used.

Illustrative calculation, not today’s rate: suppose the selected 22K reference is 100 currency units per gram. A 4-gram amount is 400, an 8-gram amount is 800 and a 10-gram amount is 1,000 before purchase charges. A 7.35-gram item has a reference value of 735. Today, yesterday and the weekly gold price chart

Keep the country, purity and weight unchanged when comparing daily gold rates. The daily reference chart supplies dated values, while its comparison shows the direction and size of the movement within that same series. A 10-gram change will be ten times the corresponding one-gram change in money terms; the percentage movement is the same when both use identical underlying records.

The current quote and the daily reference chart have their own clearly labelled price bases. Compare yesterday and the week-ago value within the daily series, then use the current quotation for its stated observation time. What changes the gold rate?

The international metal price and the currency conversion both matter to a local-currency reference. If the dollar metal price is unchanged but a dollar costs more in your currency, the converted gold value increases. If those two inputs move in opposite directions, one can partly offset the other. This explains why two country charts need not show the same percentage change.

The World Gold Council’s research framework considers economic activity, uncertainty, the opportunity cost of holding gold and market momentum together. These are influences to examine, not a formula that determines tomorrow’s price. A chart can show that a change happened; explaining a particular day’s move requires evidence for that day.

Compare gold prices in your city

Open the city tables to compare the dated country reference and any published jeweller quotations for your location. Named offers show the product and whether the business is buying or selling. Check the weight, purity and complete amount when comparing them with a shop quotation.

From the metal value to the final buying or selling price

For jewellery, ask for the net gold-alloy weight, declared purity, metal rate and a breakdown of other invoice items. Stones and non-gold components need separate treatment. For a coin or bar, identify the exact product and its fine-gold content before comparing the full offer with the reference value.

When selling, request the net payment after any agreed deductions. A higher headline buying rate is less useful if the final payment is lower.
